The 2016 Koenigsegg Regera took the hypercar concept in a radically different direction, combining extreme V8 power with a compact hybrid system and a transmission layout unlike conventional performance cars. Its low Targa-top body, rear-mid-engine configuration, and long, wide stance gave it the presence of a purpose-built hypercar, while the electric powertrain added another layer to its performance character. Rather than simply adding hybrid assistance, the Regera integrated electrification into a highly specialized drivetrain designed around effortless, immense acceleration.
For 2016–2022, the Regera combines a twin-turbocharged 5.1-liter V8 producing 1,100 hp with a 704-hp electric system and 4.5-kWh battery. AutoSpecsHub lists 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of combined output, with rear-wheel drive and a CVT transmission. It reaches 255 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 2.7 seconds, while its 3,505-pound curb weight helps explain the extraordinary performance of this two-seat hypercar.
