The MG GS 1.5 TGI marked MG’s move into the competitive compact SUV segment, combining practical family-friendly proportions with a turbocharged petrol engine and contemporary styling. Its five-door body, spacious five-seat cabin and versatile luggage area made it suitable for daily commuting and longer journeys, while the front-wheel-drive layout kept the package straightforward and road-focused. With MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear setup, the GS aimed to balance everyday comfort with the confident handling expected from a modern crossover.
The 2016–2019 MG GS 1.5 TGI uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four producing 164 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 9.6 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 9.9 seconds. Top speed reaches 118 mph, while its 3,053-pound curb weight and practical five-seat layout make it a versatile option for everyday driving and family use.
