The G70 2.2D takes the compact sport-sedan concept in a different direction, pairing Genesis’s sharp design with the relaxed character of a modern diesel. Its low stance and balanced proportions still give it an athletic presence, but the powertrain places greater emphasis on effortless cruising and strong mid-range response. That contrast gives the diesel G70 its own identity within the lineup, blending the appeal of a driver-oriented sedan with the practical nature of diesel power.
For 2021–2026, the G70 2.2D used a turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four producing 197 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, preserving the sedan’s traditional sport-oriented layout. The strong torque output suits relaxed acceleration and longer journeys, while the rear-drive configuration keeps the car connected to the driving character expected from the G70.
