The Deauville showed that De Tomaso could build a luxury car without losing its appetite for performance. Styled by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia, the large four-door carried a restrained silhouette that deliberately avoided the visual excess of the Pantera. Its long bonnet, low roof and clean surfaces gave it the presence of a traditional Italian grand tourer, while the cabin offered genuine room for five rather than treating rear passengers as an afterthought.
Introduced in 1971–1985, the Deauville was powered by a 5.8-liter Ford V8 producing 325 hp, giving this substantial sedan a surprisingly serious turn of speed. Buyers could choose between a five-speed manual and three-speed automatic, reinforcing its dual role as both a driver's car and a long-distance cruiser. The Deauville's significance lies in that unusual balance: Italian coachbuilt elegance wrapped around American V8 muscle, creating a luxury sedan that was considerably more unconventional than its understated appearance suggested.
