The Ginetta G32 was an unusual British sports car, combining compact dimensions with a mid-mounted engine layout in a package that prioritized simplicity and driver involvement. Its small footprint and low body gave it the character of a lightweight specialist machine rather than a conventional sports coupe. Ginetta also kept the design relatively understated, allowing the mechanical layout and focused proportions to define the car more than visual excess.
For 1989–1991, the G32 1.6i used a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter inline-four producing 105 hp and 102 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sent power to the rear wheels, with the rear-mid engine placement helping create its distinctive balance. At just 1,662 lb, the lightweight construction allowed modest engine output to translate into a lively sports-car experience.
