2000 Ascari Ecosse 50 Specs & Performance

The Ascari Ecosse 5.0 was the final and most powerful expression of Ascari’s original Ecosse formula, taking the boutique British coupé into genuine supercar territory. For 2000, the car received a 4.9-liter naturally aspirated BMW M62 V8 developed by Hartge, producing 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Positioned behind the cabin and driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, the engine gave the lightweight two-seat coupé an exceptionally direct character. With a 202 mph top speed and 4.1-second 0–62 mph acceleration, the Ecosse 5.0 combined old-school V8 response with performance that could challenge far better-known exotic cars.

What made the Ecosse 5.0 particularly distinctive was its blend of exclusivity and serious chassis engineering. At just 2,756 pounds, its relatively compact body was supported by double-wishbone suspension at both ends, ventilated disc brakes and wide staggered 18-inch tires. Rather than relying on sheer size or electronic complexity, Ascari concentrated on weight, balance and mechanical performance. The result was a rare British sports coupé with a distinctly individual identity, representing the high point of the Ecosse lineage before Ascari moved toward its next generation of performance cars.
