1998 Ascari Ecosse Specs & Performance

The Ascari Ecosse was one of the defining cars of Ascari’s early years, combining British sports-car design with serious German-derived engineering. Introduced for 1998, the Ecosse used a rear-mid-mounted 4.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 developed from BMW M62 architecture by Hartge. Producing 300 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, the lightweight coupé delivered its power through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Its 190 mph top speed and 4.4-second 0–62 mph acceleration reflected a focused approach to performance, while the compact two-seat layout kept the car firmly centered on the driver.

The Ecosse was also notable for its construction and chassis philosophy. Double-wishbone suspension at both ends, ventilated disc brakes and wide staggered 18-inch tires gave the car the hardware needed to exploit its relatively low 2,756-pound weight. Rather than chasing the size and complexity of established supercars, Ascari created something more exclusive and distinctly individual.
