The 1997–2002 Marcos Mantis Coupé marked a more modern chapter for the British marque while retaining the unusual proportions and low-volume character that made Marcos distinctive. Its front-mid-mounted V8, rear-wheel drive, and two-seat cabin create a purposeful sports-car layout, while double-wishbone suspension at both ends gives the chassis a suitably focused foundation. The combination of a long, low body and traditional mechanical engineering makes the Mantis an intriguing alternative to more familiar performance coupes of the period.
At the heart of the car is a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 producing 327 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The Mantis reaches 170 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Its 2,601-lb curb weight helps the available V8 power translate into strong performance, while vented disc brakes at both ends provide the stopping capability expected from a car with this level of output. The result is a rare British sports coupe with a distinctly mechanical personality.
