The Marcos Mantis GT takes the marque’s low-volume British sports-car philosophy in a more substantial direction, combining an unusual two-door coupé shape with a front-mounted V8 and rear-wheel drive. The 1998–2002 Mantis GT retains the handmade character associated with Marcos, but its larger dimensions and four-seat layout give it a broader role than the smaller Mantula. A five-speed manual gearbox and independent suspension at both ends keep the mechanical package focused on driver involvement rather than conventional grand-touring refinement.
Its naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 produces 327 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque, giving the Mantis GT a 175-mph top speed and 4.9-second 0–60 mph acceleration. With a curb weight of 2,998 lb, the car combines substantial V8 output with a relatively compact sports-car structure. Vented disc brakes at both ends provide stopping power, while the 255-liter luggage capacity adds useful practicality to a car whose distinctive styling and limited production make it an unusual presence among late-1990s British performance coupes.
