The original Ultima GTR was conceived as a lightweight, mid-engined supercar that owners could configure around a proven American V8. Its steel spaceframe chassis, composite body and rear-wheel-drive layout keep the engineering focused, while double-wishbone suspension at both ends gives the compact coupe a purposeful, competition-influenced foundation. Rather than depending on electronic driving aids or elaborate luxury equipment, the GTR puts its emphasis on mechanical simplicity and a direct connection between driver and machine.
The 1999–2006 model uses a naturally aspirated 5.7-litre General Motors LS1 V8, rated at 350 hp and 365 lb·ft of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels, and the listed 2,094-pound weight helps it reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. With a claimed top speed of 157 mph, this early GTR established the high-performance formula that later, more powerful versions would take much further.
