The XKR Coupé brought Jaguar’s traditional grand-touring character into a more performance-focused era, pairing the elegant X100 shape with the force of a supercharged V8. Rather than turning into a stripped-down sports car, it retained the long-distance comfort and 2+2 practicality expected from a Jaguar GT. The result was a coupé with a restrained appearance but considerably more urgency beneath the bonnet, giving the XK range a distinctly sharper edge without abandoning its luxury-oriented character.
For 1998–2002, the XKR Coupé used a supercharged 4.0-liter V8 producing 358 hp and 372 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission drove the rear wheels, allowing 0–60 mph in 5.2 seconds and a 155-mph top speed. That blend of effortless V8 torque, rear-wheel drive and automatic cruising made the XKR particularly well suited to fast, relaxed touring.
