The XK8 Cabrio marked a new chapter for Jaguar, replacing the long-running XJ-S with a more modern interpretation of the luxury convertible. Its rounded bodywork softened the visual drama of earlier Jaguar sports cars, while the long bonnet and low cabin retained a clear connection to the marque’s grand-touring tradition. The open cabin made it especially suited to relaxed high-speed journeys, and Jaguar’s new V8 gave the car a smoother, more contemporary character than the straight-six and V12 machinery that preceded it.
Introduced in 1996, the XK8 Cabrio uses a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 producing 290 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 6.8 seconds and top speed reaching 153 mph. Its 2+2 seating layout adds a practical dimension to the grand-touring convertible, while the front-mounted engine and double-wishbone suspension maintain Jaguar’s traditional RWD architecture.
