With its roof folded away, the XK8 Cabrio gave Jaguar’s X100 grand tourer a more relaxed and theatrical personality. The proportions remained unmistakably Jaguar, from the long bonnet to the compact rear deck, but the open cabin shifted the emphasis toward leisurely cruising and the pleasure of hearing the V8 at work. It was never intended as a hard-edged sports convertible; instead, Jaguar built it around comfort, elegance and effortless performance, retaining a useful 2+2 arrangement for occasional passengers.
For 2002–2005, the XK8 Cabrio received the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8, producing 294 hp and 303 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, while 0–60 mph takes 6.4 seconds and top speed reaches 155 mph. The combination gives the convertible enough pace for spirited driving while keeping its character firmly rooted in long-distance grand touring.
