The XKR Cabrio brought Jaguar’s grand-touring convertible into a much more performance-focused territory by adding a supercharged V8 beneath its elegant bodywork. The classic XK proportions remained, but the forced-induction engine gave this open-top Jaguar a sharper edge than the naturally aspirated XK8. Its low-slung profile, four-seat cabin and rear-wheel-drive layout still favored long-distance touring, yet the extra power meant the XKR could deliver serious acceleration whenever the road opened up. It was a convincing blend of traditional Jaguar refinement and modern performance.
The 1998–2002 XKR Cabrio uses a supercharged 4.0-liter V8 producing 358 hp and 372 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, while 0–60 mph takes 5.4 seconds and top speed reaches 155 mph. The 2+2 convertible configuration adds some practicality, while double-wishbone suspension at both ends supports its sporting grand-tourer character.
