The open-top Mantis GT gives Marcos’s late-1990s performance philosophy a particularly dramatic expression. The 1998–2002 roadster combines a low, wide body with a front-mid-mounted V8, rear-wheel drive, and a two-seat cabin, creating a distinctly focused alternative to more conventional British sports cars. Its double-wishbone suspension at both ends and five-speed manual transmission keep the mechanical connection central to the experience, while the supercharged engine gives the roadster an unusually serious performance character for such a low-volume marque.
Underneath that distinctive shape is a 4.6-liter supercharged V8 producing 506 hp and 451 lb-ft of torque. The Mantis GT Roadster reaches 179 mph and completes 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds, with its 2,723-lb curb weight helping make the most of the available output. Vented disc brakes front and rear complement the chassis, while 190 liters of luggage capacity provides some useful practicality without changing the car’s fundamentally driver-focused character.
