The Marcos Mantis Roadster brings the marque’s distinctive low-volume approach into an open two-seat format, combining dramatic proportions with a traditional front-mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The 1997–2002 version uses a naturally aspirated V8 and five-speed manual transmission, giving it a direct mechanical character that suits its unusual styling. Double-wishbone suspension at both ends further emphasizes the car’s sporting intent, while the compact cabin and limited luggage capacity keep the focus firmly on the driving experience.
Power comes from a 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 327 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The roadster reaches 170 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 4.3 seconds, while its 2,645-lb curb weight keeps the performance figures competitive for its era. Vented disc brakes at both ends provide the stopping power, and the combination of substantial V8 torque, rear-wheel drive, and relatively low mass gives the Mantis Roadster a character distinctly different from more conventional grand-tourers.
