The NIO EP9 was conceived as a statement of what an electric supercar could achieve when performance took priority over convention. Its extremely low profile, sculpted bodywork and prominent aerodynamic elements give it the purposeful appearance of a machine shaped by airflow rather than styling trends. Beneath that dramatic exterior, an advanced electric powertrain replaces the familiar roar of a combustion engine with instantaneous response and relentless acceleration. The EP9 also helped establish NIO’s performance credentials beyond the everyday electric-car market, demonstrating that battery-powered engineering could compete in territory traditionally occupied by elite petrol-powered exotics. Its rarity and uncompromising design make it a particularly striking milestone in the development of high-performance electric vehicles.
Built from 2016 to 2019, the EP9 uses four electric motors producing a combined 1,341 hp and 1,092 lb-ft of torque. A 100 kWh gross battery, with 90 kWh usable capacity, supplies energy to its all-wheel-drive system through direct-drive gearing. The two-seat coupe reaches 194 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in a claimed 2.6 seconds, delivering extraordinary performance without a conventional multi-speed gearbox.
