The 2015–2016 McLaren P1 GTR takes the already extreme P1 concept and turns it into a far more focused track machine. Developed around the idea of extracting maximum performance rather than accommodating everyday road use, its low-slung body, aggressive aerodynamic design and stripped-back two-seat cabin give it the unmistakable character of a competition-inspired special. With its rear-mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive, the P1 GTR sits firmly among McLaren’s most uncompromising modern creations.
Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 works with an electric motor to produce a combined 986 hp and 656 lb-ft of torque, driving through a seven-speed transmission. The result is a 202 mph top speed and a remarkable 0–60 mph time of 2.6 seconds. At 3,175 pounds, its low mass helps make the enormous power output even more significant. The combination of hybrid assistance, extreme acceleration and track-focused engineering gives the P1 GTR a character far removed from an ordinary road-going supercar.
