The Triumph TR3 A refined the traditional British roadster formula with subtle styling changes and a stronger sporting character. Its wider front grille, long bonnet and compact two-seat body give it a distinctive appearance, while the open cockpit preserves the appeal of uncomplicated sports-car motoring. The front-mid-engine layout and rear-wheel-drive configuration provide a conventional mechanical foundation, complemented by straightforward engineering and lightweight construction. Rather than relying on luxury or elaborate technology, the TR3 A focuses on responsive performance and an engaging driving experience.
Produced from 1957–1962, the TR3 A uses a 2-litre naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline engine featuring an OHV valvetrain and carburetor fuel delivery. It produces 100 hp at 5,000 rpm and 118 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Its performance includes a 0–60 mph time of 10.2 seconds and a 106 mph top speed. With seating for two and 5.1 cubic feet of luggage capacity, it combines sporting ability with the practical proportions of a classic British roadster.
