The Triumph TR4 A IRS pairs the familiar British roadster shape with a more sophisticated chassis layout. Its broad grille, sculpted bonnet and compact two-seat body give it a purposeful appearance, while the open cockpit keeps the experience focused on traditional sports-car motoring. Its defining feature is independent rear suspension with semi-trailing arms, replacing the live axle used by the companion TR4 A Live Axle. This gives the IRS version a distinct place in the TR4 range.
Produced from 1965–1967, it uses a 2.1-litre naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline engine with an OHV valvetrain and carburetor fuel delivery. Output is 104 hp at 4,700 rpm and 132 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. AutoSpecsHub lists a 0–60 mph time of 10.4 seconds, a 109 mph top speed and 5.8 cubic feet of luggage space, alongside seating for two.
