The Talbot Horizon LS was the entry point to a hatchback range that helped bring front-wheel-drive practicality to the European family-car market. Its five-door body provides a useful cabin for five occupants, while the transverse engine layout avoids the space intrusion of a longitudinal drivetrain. The design is uncomplicated, with a functional interior and a compact footprint that remains easy to manage in everyday driving. Rather than relying on extra equipment or performance, this version makes its case through straightforward construction and sensible passenger space.
Its 1,118 cc Simca-derived petrol engine develops 54 hp at 5,600 rpm and 65 lb·ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. The overhead-valve four-cylinder is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, sending power to the front wheels. Independent front suspension with longitudinal torsion bars and independent rear trailing arms give the Horizon a more sophisticated chassis layout than its basic specification might suggest. Produced from 1978–1982, the LS reflects an era when practical packaging and mechanical simplicity were central to the small family hatchback.
