The Talbot Samba Rallye turned the small Samba hatchback into a more focused sporting model, with its compact three-door body and purposeful detailing reflecting its competition-inspired character. Developed for drivers who wanted an agile, lightweight front-wheel-drive car, it combined the practicality of a small hatchback with a lively engine and close-ratio gearbox. Its modest size and relatively low kerb weight were central to the experience, making responsive handling and accessible performance more important than outright power.
At its core is a 1,219 cc naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 88 hp at 6,700 rpm and 74 lb·ft of torque at 5,400 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission drives the front wheels, while the engine’s high-revving character gives the Rallye a distinctly sporting feel. Introduced in 1983 and continued through 1986, it became one of the most recognisable performance versions of the Samba range.
