The Talbot Samba Cabriolet brought open-top motoring to the small-car class with styling and conversion work by Pininfarina. Rather than being a simple roofless adaptation, the body required additional strengthening and a revised rear section to accommodate the folding hood. Its compact dimensions and front-wheel-drive layout kept it approachable for everyday use, while seating for four made it more versatile than many small two-seat convertibles. The result was a characterful French cabriolet with a distinctly Italian design influence.
Under the bonnet, a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder produces 78 hp at 5,800 rpm and 80 lb·ft of torque at 2,800 rpm. A five-speed manual gearbox sends power to the front wheels, giving the car a claimed 101 mph top speed. Sold from 1983–1986, the Cabriolet combined modest performance with light weight and the appeal of open-air driving, making it a distinctive member of the Samba range.
