The 2011–2014 Mastretta MXT is a rare example of Mexico’s ambition to create a lightweight, purpose-built sports car with a distinctly individual character. Its compact proportions, low-slung profile and two-seat cabin give it the focused feel of a machine designed around driving rather than luxury or practicality. With its mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive layout, the MXT follows a classic sports-car formula while remaining unusual enough to stand apart from better-known European competitors.
A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four produces 247 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque, sending power through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Weighing just 2,050 lb, the MXT can reach 143 mph and accelerate from 0–60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Double-wishbone suspension at both ends complements its lightweight construction, helping give the car a focused road-going character. The result is a distinctive sports coupé that combines modest dimensions, low weight and turbocharged performance in an uncommon package.
