The Proton Saga 1.6 S16 FLX brought practical compact-sedan design together with a larger-displacement engine for everyday motoring. Its conventional four-door body, clean exterior styling, and five-seat cabin made it suitable for commuting and family use, while the separate trunk provided useful space for luggage and shopping. Front-wheel drive kept the layout straightforward, and the revised FLX generation focused on balancing ride comfort with predictable handling. As part of Proton’s established Saga family, the S16 FLX 1.6 offered an accessible sedan package built around everyday usability rather than sporting excess.
For the 2012–2016 range, the Saga S16 FLX 1.6 used a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre, 16-valve DOHC inline-four producing 108 hp at 5,750 rpm and 111 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The front wheels were driven through a five-speed manual transmission. With a top speed of 106 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 12.1 seconds, its performance was suited to routine driving. MacPherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension supported its road manners, while the four-door body accommodated five occupants and offered 14.6 cubic feet of luggage space. Its combination of compact-sedan practicality and straightforward mechanical design made it a functional choice for daily journeys.
