The Volga Siber marked a notable change in direction for GAZ, bringing a more contemporary-looking sedan to the lineup while still carrying the Volga name. Its smoother proportions and modernized cabin gave it a very different character from the boxier 3102 and 31105 models that preceded it. More than a simple facelift of the traditional formula, the Siber represented GAZ’s attempt to make its large sedan feel more at home in a changing automotive market.
For 2009–2011, the Siber 2.4 AT used a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-four producing 141 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission sent power to the rear wheels, giving the sedan an easygoing character suited to everyday driving. The combination of automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive was a notable departure from the predominantly manual Volga models that came before it.
