The Volga 31105 arrived as a later evolution of GAZ’s enduring large-sedan formula, retaining the roomy, straightforward character expected from the nameplate while moving into a more modern phase of its production life. It was not designed around outright speed or sporting ambition; instead, the car emphasized a substantial road presence, conventional mechanical engineering, and an easygoing approach to everyday driving. The rear-wheel-drive layout and long wheelbase gave it the proportions of a traditional executive-style sedan, while the relatively simple cabin and mechanical package kept its purpose clear. For buyers accustomed to large, practical saloons, the 31105 offered familiarity rather than unnecessary complexity.
In 2004–2007, the 31105 used a naturally aspirated 2.3-liter inline-four producing 129 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive remained central to its character, while the 13.1-second 0–60 mph time reflects its relaxed rather than performance-focused nature. With seating for five and 17.7 cubic feet of luggage space, the sedan also placed useful passenger and cargo room ahead of outright pace.
