The Volga 3110 represents a distinctly different idea of the large family sedan, shaped by GAZ's long tradition of building substantial rear-wheel-drive cars for demanding roads. Rather than chasing the compactness or styling trends of Western sedans, it retained a broad, formal presence and a straightforward mechanical layout. Its spacious cabin, conventional proportions, and durable character made it well suited to everyday use across the varied conditions for which Volga models had long been known. There is a sense of old-school practicality to the 3110 that sets it apart from more fashionable contemporaries.
For 1997–2002, the 3110 used a naturally aspirated 2.3-liter four-cylinder producing 148 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. Its 13.1-second 0–60 mph time reflects the car's relaxed rather than sporty character, while the 20.1 mpg combined figure is consistent with its substantial size and traditional engineering. The combination of a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive also preserves the classic Volga driving layout, giving this large sedan an identity rooted more in robust everyday transportation than outright performance.
