The Volga 3110-101 belongs to the later chapter of GAZ’s long-running large-sedan tradition, keeping the traditional Volga character while adopting a more modern engine and cabin-era specification. Rather than chasing the styling or driving manners of contemporary Western sedans, it remained deliberately conventional: substantial in appearance, rear-wheel driven, and built around a straightforward mechanical layout. That familiar approach gave the car an understated identity, particularly suited to drivers who valued space and durability over novelty.
For 2002–2004, the 3110-101 used a naturally aspirated 2.3-liter four-cylinder producing 129 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque, connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. Its 13.1-second 0–60 mph time reflects the relaxed nature of the car, while the 20.1 mpg combined figure is consistent with its large-sedan proportions. The longitudinal engine and rear-wheel-drive layout are perhaps more significant than the performance numbers, preserving the traditional Volga driving character while giving this later version a more contemporary powertrain.
