The Volga 3102 entered a later stage of its development with a more refined interpretation of the familiar large-sedan formula. Its restrained styling still carried the formal character associated with the name, but the updated mechanical package gave this version a more contemporary feel beneath the traditional exterior. Rather than abandoning its established identity, GAZ evolved the 3102 gradually, keeping the car focused on straightforward engineering and composed everyday road manners.
For 2005–2009, the 3102 used a naturally aspirated 2.3-liter inline-four producing 129 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive maintained the conventional layout, while the DOHC engine marked a more modern element of the package. These details gave the sedan a balanced combination of familiar Volga character and updated mechanical technology.
