The Proton Gen•2 Persona 1.6 adapted the Gen•2 platform into a more conventional four-door sedan, with a distinct rear section and separate boot. Its sharply defined body lines, sloping roofline, and compact proportions retained a contemporary appearance, while the five-seat cabin and folding rear seats supported everyday family use. Developed with input from Lotus, the model adopted a more family-oriented character than the sportier Gen•2 hatchback, combining practical saloon packaging with an emphasis on composed road manners.
Across the 2008–2013 range, the Persona 1.6 featured a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre DOHC inline-four petrol engine producing 110 hp at 6,000 rpm and 109 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power reached the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension supported its balance of ride comfort and handling stability. This straightforward mechanical layout made the sedan suitable for everyday commuting and longer journeys.
