The Proton Gen•2 1.6 CPS gave Proton’s sharply styled five-door hatchback a more performance-oriented character through its upgraded CamPro powertrain and revised exterior details. The facelift brought a redesigned dashboard, updated door trims, and a more cohesive cabin layout, addressing some of the earlier model’s interior shortcomings. Its sloping roofline, angular bodywork, and compact proportions retained the distinctive appearance of the original Gen•2, while chassis development influenced by Lotus helped preserve its reputation for responsive steering and balanced handling. The CPS version combined everyday hatchback practicality with a stronger emphasis on driver engagement.
For the 2008–2012 range, the Gen•2 1.6 CPS used a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre DOHC 16-valve inline-four petrol engine, with Camshaft Profile Switching and a Variable Intake Manifold to improve breathing across the rev range. AutoSpecsHub lists output at 124 hp at 6,500 rpm and 111 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. A four-speed automatic transmission delivered power to the front wheels. MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension supported composed cornering and everyday ride comfort, complementing the hatchback’s practical five-seat layout.
