The Q50 2.2d brought an unexpected European influence to Infiniti’s luxury-sedan lineup, using a Mercedes-Benz-sourced diesel rather than one of Infiniti’s familiar petrol engines. It was aimed at drivers covering long distances, where the diesel’s strong low-speed pull and restrained fuel consumption mattered more than outright acceleration. The manual gearbox also gave this version a more traditional character than many premium rivals, while the Q50’s rear-wheel-drive chassis kept the driving experience firmly connected to Infiniti’s sport-sedan roots.
For 2013–2018, the Q50 2.2d uses a 2.1-liter bi-turbo inline-four diesel producing 168 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 8.2 seconds and a 143-mph top speed. The combination gives the Q50 a useful balance of long-distance efficiency and conventional rear-drive sedan character.
