The Q50 Hybrid is an interesting example of Infiniti adding electrification without abandoning the character of a conventional performance sedan. Instead of replacing its V6 with a smaller engine, Infiniti combined the naturally aspirated unit with an electric motor and a compact battery, giving the car stronger response while retaining its rear-wheel-drive architecture. The hybrid hardware is tucked into a package that still looks and behaves like a traditional luxury sedan, making the Q50 feel more like an evolution of the formula than a completely different kind of car.
The 2013–2018 Q50 3.5 V6 Hybrid combines a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with a 1.3-kWh mild-hybrid system for 359 hp and 403 lb-ft of combined torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels, while 0–60 mph takes 4.9 seconds. That combination gives the Q50 both the smoothness of a naturally aspirated V6 and the immediate assistance of electric power.
