The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 returns with the character that made its predecessor unusual: a compact crossover powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder rather than a conventional four-cylinder unit. Its 2.5-liter engine produces 385 hp and 354 lb-ft, sending power through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels. A 4.1-second 0–60 mph time and 174-mph top speed give the VZ5 the performance credentials of a much more focused machine, while its transverse engine layout preserves the compact crossover proportions.
The 2026–2027 VZ5 also remains a practical five-door SUV, with five seats and up to 51.7 cubic feet of luggage space. Its AWD system, 255/35 ZR20 tyres and multi-link rear suspension complement the five-cylinder engine, while the 3,538-pound curb weight helps explain the strong performance. What separates this version from the ordinary Formentor range is the combination of a distinctive five-cylinder soundtrack, serious straight-line pace and everyday crossover usability in one package.
