The Messerschmitt KR200 continued the unusual Kabinenroller concept with an enclosed, aircraft-inspired cabin wrapped around an exceptionally compact three-wheel design. Developed as lightweight postwar transportation, it used tandem seating, a narrow body and a distinctive bubble canopy that reflected Messerschmitt’s aviation heritage. Its tiny dimensions and extremely low weight made the KR200 one of the most recognizable microcars of its era, while the unusual layout gave it a character far removed from conventional automobiles.
The 1955–1964 Messerschmitt KR200 uses a naturally aspirated 0.2-liter inline-one gasoline engine producing 10 hp. A four-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels, with the engine positioned transversely behind the occupants and a top speed of 62 mph. Weighing just 463 pounds, the KR200 emphasized lightweight construction, economical transportation and compact maneuverability, while its single-door, two-seat configuration made it one of the most distinctive vehicles of the postwar microcar era.
