The Toyota 2000GT is a landmark Japanese sports coupe, admired for its elegant proportions, low profile, and carefully engineered mechanical layout. Its long bonnet, distinctive bodywork, and intimate two-seat cabin give it the character of a focused grand tourer rather than a conventional everyday car. Rear-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission preserve a traditional sports-car connection, while the naturally aspirated inline-six delivers its power through a smooth, high-revving character. The combination of balanced design and purposeful engineering helped establish the 2000GT as an important chapter in Japan’s performance-car history.
For the 1967–1970 production range, the Toyota 2000GT uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre inline-six producing 148 hp at 6,600 rpm and 131 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. Its five-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 137 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 8.3 seconds. With a curb weight of 2,469 lbs, double-wishbone suspension at both ends, and solid disc brakes front and rear, it combines relatively light construction with a traditional sports-car chassis.
