The Ginetta G26 took the company’s lightweight sports-car thinking into a more practical shape, combining a compact footprint with four-seat accommodation. Its low roof, simple lines, and restrained proportions gave it a character quite unlike the heavier family-oriented cars of its era. Even with its added practicality, the G26 retained the focused mechanical layout that made Ginetta models appealing to enthusiasts who valued simplicity and direct driving involvement.
For 1986–1990, the G26 used a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four producing 105 hp and 116 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sent power to the rear wheels, preserving the classic layout associated with lightweight British performance cars. The modest power output worked with the car’s relatively light construction, giving the G26 a straightforward and engaging character without relying on a complicated powertrain.
