The Nissan 100NX GTI brought a sporting edge to the compact coupé market of the early 1990s, combining everyday usability with a more engaging character than an ordinary economy car. Its low roofline, rounded bodywork and distinctive glass roof panels gave it a playful identity, while the compact three-door layout made it easy to live with. Rather than relying on extravagant styling or turbocharged power, Nissan equipped the GTI with a responsive naturally aspirated engine and a front-wheel-drive chassis. The result was an approachable sports coupé that could handle daily commuting yet still reward drivers on a winding road. Today, its unusual styling and straightforward mechanical layout make it an interesting representative of an era when affordable performance cars offered plenty of individuality.
Produced from 1991 to 1995, the 100NX GTI uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four producing 141 hp and 131 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels, delivering a claimed 0–60 mph time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. Its four-seat 2+2 cabin and 11.7 cubic feet of luggage space give this compact coupé useful everyday practicality alongside its sporting character.
