The Rover 200 220 Coupé Turbo brought serious performance to Rover’s two-door coupé range, combining a sleek profile with a distinctive glass T-bar roof that added an open-air feel without sacrificing the car’s fixed side windows. Its understated styling concealed a much stronger character than the standard coupé models, while the five-seat cabin and rear luggage area retained everyday usability. Designed to blend British grand-touring comfort with rapid acceleration, the Turbo stood out through its combination of discreet appearance, a powerful engine, and a driver-focused front-wheel-drive layout.
For the 1993–1996 range, the Rover 200 220 Coupé Turbo used a turbocharged 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve inline-four petrol engine producing 197 hp at 6,999 rpm and 174 lb-ft of torque at 2,100 rpm, according to AutoSpecsHub. A five-speed manual transmission delivered power to the front wheels. The listed chassis specification includes MacPherson strut front suspension, double-wishbone rear suspension, ventilated front disc brakes, and solid rear disc brakes. With a listed top speed of 149 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 6.4 seconds, it offered performance well beyond that of an ordinary compact coupé.
