1993, 1994
MSRP:$3,500 – $8,000
The Rover 200 216 Coupé gave Rover’s compact range a more distinctive character, pairing a sleek two-door profile with a low roofline and a glass T-bar roof that brought extra light into the cabin. Its restrained styling and compact proportions created a more mature appearance than a conventional hatchback, while the four-seat interior and separate luggage area retained everyday practicality. Positioned below the turbocharged coupé, the 216 offered a naturally aspirated alternative for drivers who preferred balanced performance and comfortable cruising over outright speed. Its combination of British styling and a practical front-wheel-drive layout made it a distinctive choice in the compact coupé segment.
For the 1993–1994 range, the Rover 200 216 Coupé used a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre SOHC 16-valve inline-four petrol engine producing 109 hp at 6,300 rpm and 102 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. Power was delivered to the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension supported balanced handling, while ventilated front disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes provided stopping power. AutoSpecsHub lists a top speed of 118 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 9.8 seconds, giving the coupé brisk performance without the added complexity of a turbocharger.
