The Triumph TR7 marked a bold departure from traditional British sports-car styling, replacing rounded roadster proportions with a sharp, wedge-shaped coupé body. Its angular nose, retractable headlights and compact two-seat cabin give it a distinctive appearance, while the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout preserves the familiar sports-car driving configuration. MacPherson strut front suspension and a live rear axle provide a straightforward mechanical foundation, reflecting the TR7's practical approach to everyday sporting motoring.
Produced during 1980–1981, the TR7 is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four Slant-4 engine, featuring a SOHC valvetrain and carburetor fuel delivery. It develops 105 hp at 5,500 rpm and 119 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. Buyers could choose a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission, both driving the rear wheels. The coupé achieves 0–60 mph in 9.2 seconds and reaches a 110 mph top speed, while its 9.9 cubic feet of luggage space adds useful practicality.
