The Baleno 1.8 GTX gave Suzuki's compact family saloon a noticeably stronger performance character than its smaller-engined siblings. Its four-door layout, conventional boot and five-seat cabin make it a practical choice for everyday transport, but the GTX badge reflects a more spirited side of the model. Front-wheel drive and a relatively lightweight body help make the most of its naturally aspirated engine, while disc brakes at both axles provide the hardware expected of a performance-oriented version.
For 1995–2001, the 1.8-litre DOHC inline-four produces 119 hp and 112 lb·ft of torque at 3,400 rpm. A manual gearbox sends power to the front wheels, with the car reaching a listed top speed of 118 mph. Its 9.9-second 0–60 mph time gives it respectable performance for a compact saloon of its era, combining everyday usability with a more engaging driving character.
