The 1999–2002 Lada Nadezhda VAZ-2120 took Lada’s rugged all-wheel-drive engineering and adapted it to a much more family-oriented format. As a compact MPV with four doors and seating for seven, it offered a distinctly practical alternative to the brand’s smaller off-road models. Its boxy proportions prioritized interior flexibility, while the permanent AWD layout gave the Nadezhda a tougher mechanical character than its people-carrier appearance might suggest. It was an unusual combination of passenger space and traditional Lada simplicity.
A naturally aspirated 1.7-liter inline-four produces 81 hp and 96 lb-ft, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. The Nadezhda reaches 84 mph, while its 300–1,250-liter luggage capacity provides considerable flexibility for passengers and cargo. That combination of seven-seat practicality and four-wheel-drive traction is what makes the VAZ-2120 particularly distinctive within Lada’s range.
