The 2002–2005 Lada Nadezhda VAZ-2120 took the brand’s practical engineering philosophy into a larger, family-focused format. Its compact MPV body provided space for seven occupants while retaining the permanent all-wheel-drive layout associated with Lada’s more rugged vehicles. The boxy shape was clearly designed around practicality, giving the Nadezhda a useful combination of passenger capacity and straightforward construction. It was an unconventional MPV, but that combination of versatility and traction gave it a character that set it apart from ordinary front-wheel-drive family vans.
A naturally aspirated 1.8-liter four-cylinder produces 81 hp and 100 lb-ft, working through a five-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. Its 87 mph top speed reflects its practical rather than performance-oriented purpose, while the 10.6–44.1 cubic-foot luggage area provides substantial flexibility behind the seven-seat cabin. The result is a simple, spacious people carrier with the added capability of permanent four-wheel traction.
