The Daihatsu Terios 1.3 4x4 combined the compact dimensions of a city-friendly vehicle with the mechanical layout of a genuine small off-roader. Its naturally aspirated 1.3-litre four-cylinder produces 86 PS and 120 Nm, with a five-speed manual transmission sending power through four-wheel drive. The engine is modest, but the combination of low weight, compact proportions and permanent traction gives the Terios a more purposeful character than its size initially suggests.
For 2001–2006, the Terios 1.3 4x4 remained focused on versatility rather than outright speed. Its five-door body provides seating for five, while the 205-litre luggage area gives it useful everyday practicality. A 145 km/h top speed and 16.1-second 0–62 mph time show that performance was not the priority; traction and usability were. This straightforward formula helped the Terios occupy an unusual niche, offering genuine four-wheel-drive hardware in a compact package without the bulk of a conventional SUV.
