The Terios 1.5 2WD is an interesting example of Daihatsu taking a compact SUV in a deliberately road-oriented direction. Instead of the four-wheel-drive system found in other versions, this model sends its power through the rear wheels, giving the small SUV a distinctive mechanical layout. The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine is modest but well suited to the vehicle, producing 104 BHP and 140 Nm. That combination keeps the Terios uncomplicated while preserving the upright stance and useful proportions that define the second-generation model.
Introduced for 2009–2013, this version makes a case for simplicity rather than ruggedness. Five seats and 380 litres of luggage space give it enough flexibility for family duties, while the 99 mph top speed and 11.8-second 0–62 mph time are adequate for ordinary road use. Its compact dimensions also make it easier to place in urban surroundings than a larger SUV. What distinguishes the 2WD Terios is therefore not a long list of equipment, but the unusual pairing of a compact SUV body with rear-wheel-drive mechanicals.
