The Mazda RX-8 (192) brought Mazda’s distinctive rotary-engine philosophy into a practical sports coupe, combining sleek styling with a lightweight naturally aspirated powertrain and rear-wheel-drive layout. Its four-door body and four-seat cabin gave the RX-8 an unusual degree of everyday practicality for a performance-focused car, while the front-mounted rotary engine helped maintain a balanced driving character. The RX-8 stood apart from conventional sports coupes through its high-revving engine, distinctive proportions and unconventional four-door design.
The 2003–2009 Mazda RX-8 (192) uses a naturally aspirated 1.3-liter Rotary 2 producing 189 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 7.0 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 7.2 seconds. Top speed reaches 139 mph, giving the RX-8 an engaging combination of rotary-engine character, rear-wheel-drive balance and four-door practicality.
