Hyundai gave the Veloster an unusual identity from the beginning, pairing a sporty coupe-like silhouette with an asymmetric three-door layout. The turbocharged version added a stronger performance focus without turning the compact car into something overly serious. Its low roofline, distinctive proportions, and front-wheel-drive layout made it an unconventional alternative to more traditional hot hatchbacks. For 2012–2015, the Veloster 1.6 Turbo represented the performance-oriented side of Hyundai’s early Veloster experiment, combining everyday usability with a more energetic character.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four producing 183 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a six-speed transmission to the front wheels, while the engine’s peak torque arrives at 1,500 rpm. The result is a compact coupe with enough punch to reach 60 mph in 8.1 seconds while retaining the practical four-seat layout that helped separate the Veloster from conventional two-door sports cars.
