The Veyron 16.4 represented Bugatti’s return to the highest level of automotive engineering, combining an 8.0-liter W16 with four turbochargers and permanent all-wheel drive. Its 987 hp and 922 lb-ft were channelled through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing a 253 mph top speed and a 2.4-second 0–60 mph time. Rather than relying on a lightweight minimalist formula, the Veyron pursued immense speed through sophisticated engineering and immense mechanical reserves.
The 2005–2011 Veyron used a rear-mid-mounted engine, double-wishbone suspension and ventilated disc brakes at both axles. Its two-seat cabin, 1.3 ft³ luggage area and 4,162-pound curb weight reflected a machine designed around high-speed capability rather than conventional practicality. Bugatti itself specified 1,001 PS, 1,250 Nm, four turbochargers and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while its development targeted a production-car top speed above 400 km/h
